Character development (CD) is the process through which youth develop and integrate a set of values, skills, attitudes, and behaviors
that allow them to operate successfully and responsibly in learning, work, and life. The Y is committed to youth development, and character
development is the lens through which we approach it. As youth development leaders, a focus on character development gives us the ability
to intentionally plan and apply evidence-based experiences that promote social-emotional learning (SEL)
and character development in all environments at the Y.

Character Development is taught through these adult practice areas:

  • Emotion Management
  • Empathy
  • Personal Development
  • Relationship Building
  • Responsibility
